Flies just like the simulator !! |

Captain Frank Santoni – Chief Test Pilot, Boeing Commercial Airplanes Talks about the B787 & B747-8 programs
It seems like only yesterday that we were extremely proud when somebody of merit made the statement that one of our simulators flew "just like the aircraft". Now we're frequently hearing the reverse !!
I attended a presentation that Frank Santoni gave to the Hong Kong branch of the RAeS in December of last year mainly about 747-8 flight testing, and was most impressed with Frank and of course the subject matter. There was video footage of things that are not normally seen outside of the flight test fraternity.
Hopefully I can obtain copies of this footage for our FSTD Evaluators course, but in the meantime I thought you may be interested in the following video of Frank recently being interviewed by the Society, where he says that there were no surprises when flying the aircraft, it was just like the simulator !!

We are finding more and more people involved in the flight simulator business are realizing the importance of learning how to properly evaluate a FSTD. Specifcally they want to know how to locate, understand and apply the information contained in JAR FSTD A & JAR FSTD H which are still the main regulatory documents in use today along with the FAA CFR Part 60.
Evaluators, operators, manufacturers and military personnel that attend our course all go away with a much clearer understanding of the evaluation process, and with the practical skills to evaluate and qualify a FSTD to one or more of the many international standards currrently being applied. In addition, they learn about what is happening, and about to happen to those standards as the world moves towards a common set with the use of ICAO 9625 edition #3
Our course is JAA - TO approved and reccomended by a number of authorities world wide as a standard they wish to maintain for those people involved in FSTD evaluations.
To avoid disappointment, please make sure you confirm your place on any future course as soon as possible.

FSEMC Regulatory panel report on 9625/3 adoption |
|
Mike Jackson, FedEx's manager of aquisitions and programs for flight simulators, has kindly sent us link to the report generated by the Flight Simulator Engineering & Maintenance Conference (FSEMC) in September of last year where a regulatory panel discussion was held that included representatives of the FAA, EASA, UK CAA, and Transport Canada. At that time he reports that both the FAA and EASA indicated that the adoption of 9625 was not going to be planned for a few years yet. In both cases, it seemed they were looking at the 2015-2016 timeframe.
You can locate this and other FSEMC Meeting reports at http://www.aviation-ia.com/fsemc/reports/index.html
Note that the meeting reports are free to members and sponsors of FSEMC, but have a fee for others.
Many thanks for this input Mike... |
